Elton John sells out Peterborough show; online box office glitch frustrates fans

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Four thousand tickets for an Elton John concert this September in Peterborough, Ont., sold out in three hours on Friday.

The lineup at the Memorial Centre grew as did frustrations when online sales froze.

Spokeswoman Sue Warrington says 2,200 people tried to order tickets as soon as the online box office opened at 10 a.m.

Rachel Jenkins of Lakefield, Ont., says she and a friend in Mississauga, Ont., tried unsuccessfully to purchase tickets for more than an hour.

Warrington says 100 of the fans who were unsuccessful in buying tickets have been put on a waiting list.

She says the singer’s promoter always sets aside a block of seats, some of which will become available just before the Sept. 8 show.
