Premier Darrell Dexter says he’s not concerned about a new consortium entering the bidding for the federal shipbuilding contract.
Halifax-based Irving Shipbuilding and Seaspan Marine Inc. of B.C. are both vying for the $35 billion contract.
It was reported late last week that Quebec’s Davie Shipyards entered a joint venture with five Ontario companies and Daewoo of South Korea to bid on the federal contracts.
However, Dexter’s office is downplaying the new bid, saying Nova Scotia is ready and able to build the new ships.
A spokesperson for the premier tells Metro Halifax Irving Shipbuilding is the dependable partner the federal government needs and says the confusion around the other bids speaks for itself.
