Annual McNab’s cleanup nets hundreds of bags of trash

Another succesful cleanup of McNab’s Island beach is on the books.

Volunteers collected 550 bags of garbage and recyclables on Sunday, which included more than a few weird “treasures.”

Among the weirdest were a Vancouver Canucks sandal, a Cadillac car seat and the top off a pot belly stove.

There were also plastic action figures, toy soldiers, pillows and a mattress and several 12-gauge shotgun shells.

Organizers say they also collected the usual assortment of plastic, styrofoam, old tires, Tim Horton’s coffee cups and tampon applicators, which wash up from the sewer system.

It was the 20th consecutive cleanup of McNabs and organizers say they’ve collected more than 10,000 bags of trash since 1991.
