Finance Minister reveals virtual budget shoes

In the pre-budget tradition, Nova Scotia’s Finance Minister has revealed his new shoes — and they’re not even real.

Minister Graham Steele opened a shoebox, and instead of leather he pulled out a tablet computer with a picture of shoes.

“This is, of course, a pair of virtual shoes displayed on the new Blackberry Playbook by Research In Motion, better known as RIM,” said Steele.

Cool, but what’s the point? Well, Steele says RIM is a Nova Scotia employer with a strong presence, and a company that let Steele add an innovative twist to an old tradition. He says RIM is the kind of company that the government wants to attract with the JobsHere plan, which will be part of the budget tomorrow.

Most of the budget has already been announced, but the minister says there will be one set of new measures that he expects will be a pleasant surprise to one sector.
