Finance Minster Graham Steele teases budget

The provincial budget will be tabled next Tuesday.

Finance Minister Graham Steele made the announcement right off the top of a speech to the Halifax Chambers of Commerce Tuesday afternoon.

He says as things stand, the government is still on track to balance the books by 2013, and adds they will come in very close to the predicted deficit for 2011/2012 of $370 million.

Steele also announced a tax break for small businessess.

“I’m pleased to announce that the upcoming budget will include another cut in the small business tax rate from four and half percent to four percent,” said Steele.

Starting January 1st, eligible businesses can apply the new rate of four per cent on the first $400,000 of their taxable income.

The government will also hold the line on budgets for the District Health Authorites for the first time ever.
