Pier 21 receives national museum designation

Halifax’s Pier 21 is now officially Canada’s national immigration museum.

The House of Commons has voted unanimously to give that designation to a building that has seen one million immigrants enter Canada through its doors in the last century.

They were processed from 1928 to 1971 and half-a-million armed forces members also sailed from there to Europe during World War II.

The designation means there will be annual federal funding for the waterfront museum.
