WARSAW, Poland – Fans of a Polish soccer team that was losing in the last game of the season threw flares onto the pitch, prompting the referee to call it off early.

Home team Lech Poznan was losing 2-0 to Legia Warszawa when play was stopped in the 77th minute on Sunday.

The flares gave off dark smoke as several dozen spectators pushed their way onto the pitch. The PAP news agency reported that some 200 police intervened.

Legia Warszawa was credited with a 3-0 victory and declared winner of the Ekstraklasa championship.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter that he expects security services to take “decisive action against stadium hooligans.”
