RCMP seize cocaine, marijuana during traffic stop

RCMP in Cape Breton seized cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop Wednesday.

At about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP in Baddeck stopped a pick-up truck heading east on Highway 105. Police say they thought the driver was impaired, but during the stop, an officer “made observations” that led to a drug investigation.

The driver was not impaired, but police say they found about a kilogram of cocaine and 12 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle along with some cash.

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Lower Sackville, was arrested for drug trafficking.

He was scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court Thursday, charged with possession of cocaine for the prupose of trafficking, and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police say the investigation continues.
