Woman wanted for alleged hit-and-run turns herself in

A woman who allegedly hit a car in Halifax and fled the scene has turned herself in.

Halifax Regional Police asked for the public’s help in finding the woman last week, releasing pictures of her and her car.

On Friday, the 38-year-old woman went to police headquarters and told officers she was the woman they were looking for.

She was issued a ticket for failing to take reasonable steps to locate and notify the owner of an unattended vehicle damaged in an accident, and will appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date.

In September, police were called to the corner of Brenton Street and Brenton Place, where an unoccupied car had reportedly been hit. Police asked around at local businesses, and found some surveillance video that showed a woman hitting the car in a black Jeep, and driving away.

Last Wednesday, police released stills from the video, asking for the public’s help in finding the woman.
