Security concerns won’t keep Nova Scotian snowboarder’s family from Sochi

The parents of Nova Scotia snowboarder Alex Duckworth will be in Sochi cheering on their daughter at the Olympic games despite growing security concerns.

John Duckworth told News 95.7 missing the opportunity to see his daughter compete after all the work she did to get there isn’t an option.

“Imagine ourselves in a few years thinking, ‘We should have done that.’  I mean, you only have one chance,” said John.

Growing security concerns surrounding the games have sidelined the families of some Olympic athletes, but Duckworth’s mother Anne Fouillard said those concerns are not bothering them.

“I often work in war zones so it’s the least of my worries at this stage.  I’ve been in probably much more dangerous situations than this one,” explained Fouillard.

Fouillard has spent time working in international development.

The Olympics run from February 7th to the 23rd.
