Driver leads police on low-speed chase

A Halifax man led RCMP on a very slow-speed chase Sunday night and then attempted to flee police after causing an accident.

Police were alerted to the driver around 8 p.m. after other motorists reported an eratically-driven vehicle that had nearly caused several crashes on Highway 102.

RCMP in Lower Sackville found the car traveling well below the posted speed limit.

The driver took the Hammonds Plains exit, but refused to stop for police.

Mounties say the vehicle then quickly accelerated and caused a collision.

The 53-year-old driver unsuccessfully tried to run from the scene. He’s facing charges of impaired driving and possession of stolen property.

Both the driver and his passenger were treated for minor injuries.
