Islanders hang on to defeat Mooseheads 4-3

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Charlottetown Islanders hang on and defeat the Halifax Mooseheads 4-3 at the EastLink Centre on Friday night.

The Islanders opened up the scoring early as Filip Chlapik scored on a power play, but Cooper Jones and Connor Moynihan quickly responded for the Herd, taking a 2-1 lead.

Daniel Sprong tied things up for the Islanders in the second period to make it 2-2 heading into the third.

Sprong scored his second of the evening with 7:39 left in the game, but Ben Higgins tied things up less than a minute later to make it 3-3.

But a go-ahead goal from Nicolas Meloche minutes later helped propel the Islanders to a 4-3 win.

On Sunday, the Herd heads back to the Scotiabank Centre to welcome the Shawinigan Cataractes.
