Halifax Mooseheads sign new forward

The Halifax Mooseheads have scooped up a 17-year-old from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Caleb Rich was in his second season with the French River Rapids, where he scored 27 goals and had 37 assists for 64 points in 68 career games.

“We feel that he could be a top-six player since he was a point per game player as a 16-year-old,” said General Manager Cam Russell.

The left-handed shooting center is 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds, and the team is hoping he’ll fill the void up front while forward Benoit-Olivier Groulx is off at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

“There’s lots to like there he’s got great size, good speed and he seems to play well in traffic,” said Russel.

Rich is not expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night when the Herd takes on Acadie-Bathurst, but he could be here in time for the home and home against the Screaming Eagles on Friday and Saturday.
