Halifax Hurricanes announce new head coach and GM

The Halifax Hurricanes have appointed Kevin Keathley as their new head coach after the team says they were not able to come to an agreement with Hugo Lopez for him to return to Halifax this season.

Keathley was most recently the coach for the American Basketball Association’s Bowling Green Bandits, where the team had 25 wins and 3 loses under his two-season leadership.

“We are very excited to find a coach of Kevin’s calibre to follow in the footsteps of Hugo Lopez who lead us to a Championship last season,” chair of the board Don Mills said on a news release. “He is a coach who understands what is needed to build a competitive team and to be part of the community.”

The team says Keathley has never had a losing season in his over-15 years of coaching within every professional basketball league outside of the NBA.

“We will have great players, but maybe even more importantly, great people who will embrace our community,” said the new coach.  “It’s going to be an exciting season as we look to defend the title against some of the best coaches and players in professional basketball.”

Keathley will also manage basketball operations as the team’s general manager.
