The Halifax Rainmen are mourning the loss of a former player who’d recently moved to the team’s front office.

John Strickland, 38, was found dead on Wednesday. A statement from the team says it’s believed the Brooklyn, NY, native died in his sleep.

Strickland played as a forward in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and had recently been promoted to the team’s Director of Basketball Development.

In a release, Rainmen president and CEO Andre Levingston says he’s devastated by the news

“(Strickland) was a valuable asset to the team and an incredible friend to me,” he said. “I want to extend my deepest sympathies to his family, we will all miss him very, very, much.”
