Youth facing second-degree murder charge in Stewiacke death

STEWIACKE – A second-degree murder charge has been laid against a 17-year-old male youth in connection to the death of a man in Stewiacke early Friday morning.

RCMP announced the charges Saturday against the youth who had been in custody since around 3:30 a.m. Friday, shortly after officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a home in Stewiacke and found a 46-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The man, who has not been formally identified by police, was rushed to Colchester East Hants Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Few other details have been released about the murder, including the possible relationship between the victim and the teen that faces charges, with police citing the ongoing investigation.

The youth is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on Monday.
