Girl recovering from injuries caused by stampeding horse

Doug Cogswell Jul 30, 2010 05:44:55 AM
The young girl injured by runaway horses in Bridgewater this week is recovering.

The girl was at the South Shore Exhibition on Wednesday when one horse in a team of two got spooked. It dragged the other horse along into a crowded alley, sending onlookers scrambling for safety.

Four people were injured in total, including the girl who was airlifted to the IWK where she was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Skip Griffin, who owns the horse involved, tells CTV the animal is usually quite calm.

"The horse that got spooked yesterday is a very quiet horse," he said. "He's a plow horse, he's been in many championships, and it's totally out of character for him."

Police are continuing their investigation.

There's no word yet if the girl's been released from hospital.
