Ex-HRP officer headed to court to fight for job

Ruth Davenport Jul 29, 2010 06:27:30 AM
A former Halifax Regional Police officer who lost his job after being convicted of drunk driving is going to court to get his job back.

Donald Ranni was arrested in November 2007 after having at least 20 drinks in one night. He passed out behind the wheel in the middle of an intersection and told police a woman had been driving who'd fled the scene.

Last year, he was also charged with driving while prohibited.

A police review board ruled Ranni violated the public trust and would not get his job back.

The Herald reports Ranni is now appealing that decision in Supreme Court.

He says his drinking was related to personal problems and the review board should have considered that.
