Farmers dairy employees still off the job

Erica Munn Jul 13, 2010 07:25:03 AM
It's still not known whether talks will resume between management and the union in the Farmers Dairy stalemate.

The union calls it a lockout and meanwhile management calls it a strike.

About 240 unionized workers at the Bedford Farmers plant are walking the picket line after negotiations broke down Friday.

Union spokeswoman Kim Power tells the Herald the company walked away from bargaining Wednesday without responding to counter-offers on wages and pension cutbacks.

She says she's worried the company wants to break up the union.

Farmers spokeswoman Andrea Hickey says production at the plant won't be interrupted. The union is calling for a boycott of Farmers products as the strike continues; they say production will be completed by scab workers.
