Cape Breton community mourns the loss of Canadian soldier

The Canadian Press Jul 02, 2010 16:30:23 PM
Family members wearing red tops filed into a church today in Bridgeport, N.S., to pay their respects to a soldier killed last month in Afghanistan.

Sgt. James MacNeil of Glace Bay was killed by an improved explosive device while on foot patrol.

The 28-year-old was on his fourth and final tour of duty in the war-torn country when he died.

MacNeil's flag-draped casket was carried into Immaculate Conception Church today for a funeral service as mourners held Canadian and Cape Breton flags.

On Tuesday, as his remains were returned home, an estimated 10,000 people lined the route between the Sydney airport and a funeral home in Glace Bay.
