The RCMP is saying "thanks!" to HRM residents with a series of open houses at detachments in Tantallon, Lower Sackville and Cole Harbour over the next couple of days
RCMP Superintendent Daryl Beaton says the open houses today and tomorrow are their way of showing gratitude for the support during city council's recent debate on the future of policing in HRM.
He says the support actually surprised them.
"I didn't anticipate that the public would rally in the way that they did, it was nice to see," he said. "We always felt like we had good public support out there, but to see it, the way it was demonstrated, was nice to see for sure."
The RCMP patrols the Fall River-Waverley area, city councillor Barry Dalrymple's district.
He says former county residents are comfortable with the Mounties.
"That's what's been here, that's what they know," he said. "They've built up relationships, they've built up a trust and that carries through."
Residents can visit the RCMP detachments between 2 and 5 this afternoon.
