One of Canada's most popular MP's says he's seriously considering a switch to municipal politics.
Peter Stoffer, who represents Sackville-Eastern Shore in parliament, says people keep telling him he should run for mayor.
A run for the Mayor's chair is still two years away, but Stoffer says HRM could do and be so much more.
"I just see the potential of our municipality," says Stoffer. "We have such great things."
He says he gives current mayor Peter Kelly credit, but thinks Halifax
needs a leader with more vision who does more than "talk about cats."
Some voters say a change could do city hall some good.
"What I know of him," says Peggy. "Very honest and forthright, someone you can depend on."
The next city election isn't until 2012, and Stoffer says right now he's giving all his attention to his job as MP.
Stoffer - who's been named the most congenial MP on Parliament Hill several times - says he has a history of getting people with differing political views to work together, a useful skill for any mayor.
