It'll be the status quo for policing in HRM.
Halifax Regional Council has voted overwhelmingly in favour of keeping policing service in HRM as it is.
Council spent Monday and Tuesday behind closed doors debating whether to turn all policing in HRM over to the Halifax Regional Police. Currently some rural areas are policed by RCMP.
A report from the municipal police commission suggested using city police would reduce service costs for the city.
"Council was presented with detailed, comprehensive information on which to base its decision," said Mayor Peter Kelly in a release. "After careful
consideration, council endorsed the status quo."
Halifax pays 70 per cent of the cost to have the Mounties do their jobs, with the federal government fronting the other 30 per cent.
Councillor Russell Walker, Chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners, said in a press release the decision affirms Council has confidence in the high quality public service provided by Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP.
