Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating the death of a horse by a suspected gunshot.

The animal was found dead Friday morning in its pasture in South Maitland.

Sgt. Chris Bewsher of Enfield RCMP said investigating officers found four-wheeler tracks beyond the pasture fence and a shell casing nearby.

He said death by gunshot hadn't been confirmed but the horse was lying on its side and there was blood on the ground.

The Mounties asked for the public's help in the way of leads or information in the case.
