Officials say they were prepared for winter wallop
The people in charge of keeping the power on and the streets clear, say they were ready for this morning's storm. There were a couple complaints to our newsroom about a lack of plows on Highway 102 this morning. But transportation department spokesperson Cathy MacIssac says, they were out. "The rain started to turn to snow just before 5 a.m. so crews were out about that time," says MacIssac. Lots of snow to be dealt with on the roads and lots of snow in the trees. Jennifer Parker with Nova Scotia Power says that helped bring down a couple of those trees onto power lines. "Both outages that we experienced this morning around Halifax, both South End and Hammonds Plains have been caused by trees on lines," says Parker. About 5,800 homes and businesses lost power for about two hours. |
