Early nor'easter will bring rain and snow
Get your shovels and boots ready - all signs point to a nor'easter blowing our way late tonight. Snow, rain and snow mixed with rain are all in the forecast, and the Friday morning commute may be messy. Precipitation is expected to start tonight around 9 or 10 o'clock. But News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski says knowing what form it will take will depend on the temperature, which is expected to hover around the freezing mark. "This is the time of year when we're looking at, what are we getting in terms of rain, what are we getting in terms of snow," he said. Currently, the forecast calls for 5 to 10 cm of snow with 20 mm of rain. Zurawski says it looks like the snow will be overnight, then as temperatures rise, it'll switch to rain Friday morning. "So it's going to be very wet and slushy, and the timing from midnight through to dawn could get just about anything depending on where you are," he said. Zurawski says travel between Halifax and Moncton will be particularly treacherous, and drivers planning a trip tonight should reconsider. Higher elevations and inland areas are expected to get the worst of it. Zurawski says warmer temperatures are coming right along behind the disturbance, and any snow that does accumulate will be gone by Sunday. |
