Mooseheads lose in gritty effort against league's top team
The Halifax Mooseheads dropped a heartbreaker in Saint John Wednesday night. The Mooseheads were in a 2-2 draw with the top team in the QMJHL, only to have what would've been the team's second win slip away with 2:03 left in the game. Mooseheads Coach Cam Russell calls the game disappointing. "We were in the game the whole night, we were giving them all they could handle," he said after the game. "We're playing against one of the best teams in the league, if not the best." Saint John Sea Dogs (16-4-1) forward Nicholas Petersen opened the scoring with his 8th. H-owever Carl Gelinas managed to answer midway through the second. The Mooseheads powerplay continues to be a bright spot for the 1-18-1 team, they went 2 for 4 on the night. Gabriel Desjardins was skating well, he had a number of chances around the net, and Carl Gelinas rang one off the post as well. Stanislav Galiev managed to get the Sea Dogs in the lead again, but Gerrard Grant answered for the Mooseheads yet again. However it was Nicholas Pard, picking up a loose puck around the net to ice the winner. The Mooseheads had a close chance with seconds left but couldn't get it past the goal line. Russell said the team wasn't helping their goaltender, Mathieu Corbeil. "We're getting beat to pucks around our net, and that's how they scored their three goals." The Mooseheads head home for a five-game home stand, the next game is Friday against the Val-d'or Foruer (7-12-2). You can catch the action live on News 95.7, puck drop is at 6:48 p.m..
