Fairview overpass work still waiting to start
Still nothing happening at the Fairview overpass contruction site. The five lanes were reduced to three several weeks ago however, a problem with a major fibreoptics line is holding things up. Workers dont want to damage it, because it services just about all of downtown Halifax. Cathy MacIsaac with the department of transportation says the line is buried below the overpass and they need to protect what's below from falling debris. "It's going to be a little bit before they can get everything taken down and it'll be sort of a systematic process," says MacIsaac. "So you will see work start up but it will take some time to demolition." We may see some of that the end of the this week. The province still says the job will be finished by March even with these early delays. And the contractor still faces fines if it's not done on time. |
