Sports teams hit hard by flu
The swine flu outbreak forced the cancellation of several sporting activities in the region over the weekend. Hockey appears to be the hardest hit sport, a number of weekend games in several leagues were cancelled because team members were ill, some confirmed to have H1N1. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Moncton Wildcats cancelled their Sunday match against the Montreal Juniors because they only had 11 skaters. As well in Maritime Junior A action, Friday's game between Pictou and Truro was nixed. And a couple of university games, both men's and women's were cancelled says Atlantic University Sport executive director Phil Currie. "We had some reccommendation form health professionals some MDs that putting the teams on the bus and allow the virus to incubate was not a good idea," says "As far as our teams are concerned we had 20 tournaments over he weekend in soccer and no reports came back about the H1N1 affecting anyone," says Fahie. |
