Halifax shale gas protest stalls rush hour traffic

A group of anti-fracking protestors gathered on Robie Street Friday afternoon to support recent shale gas protests in New Brunswick.

Solidarity Halifax member Sebastien Labelle tells News 95.7 he organized the event for two reasons.

“One is to protect our natural ecosystems,” explained Labelle. “The other is to stand up for the sovereignty of the Mi’kmaq people.”

About 200 protestors held up traffic on Robie and Charles streets, holding signs and chanting.

The crowd then walked down Robie to the Halifax Commons and traffic was back to normal before 5 p.m.
