Canada wins its first medal in London

Its only day 2 of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Canada has already claimed a medal.

The diving duo from Quebec, Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel won bronze today for the three-metre synchronized dive.

First place went to Minxia Wu and He Zi of China, Americans Kelci Bryant and Abigail Johnston took silver.

The win is historic for 30 year old Heymans. She is now the first female diver to win a medal in four consecutive Olympic Games. She will also take part in the three-metre individual dive Friday.

Canadian cyclist Clara Hughes also wanted to make history today but that may have to wait for another day.

She competed in the 140 Kilometre road race and finished 32nd.

If Hughes can capture another medal it will make her Canada’s most decorated Olympian.
