Harper promises Canadians no surprises with his majority government

CALGARY – Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in a jovial mood, Tuesday, as he chatted with reporters about his election victory.

A more relaxed looking Harper said this victory feels great.

After speaking about his celebration in the evening, Harper immediately focused on his government’s future.

He said he will stick to the game plan and there is no hidden agenda.

“One thing I have in this business is that surprises are generally not well received by the public,” said Harper.

The Prime Minister said he will continue to focus on creating jobs and the economic recovery, as well as work with the provinces on reforming health care.

Harper said is humbled by his majority victory and said he will work to earn the confidence and trust of Canadians.

He added he was sad but not discouraged by the results in Quebec, in that it was the NDP surge in the province that was able to dismantle the Bloc Quebecois.

“We are going to take some credit for that with how we have managed relations in the federation and with Quebec. Obviously I am disappointed that the NDP has, for now, been the beneficiary of most of that but I do think we deserve some credit for that, in terms of the wider interest in the country,” said Harper., “Obviously I am encouraged that the shift is toward Federalism.”

Harper said that the gains made by the Conservatives in Toronto were a long time coming and the city has always had a strong Tory presence.
