ST-CYRILLE-DE-WENDOVER, Que. – A funeral will be held today in Quebec for Cpl. Steve Martin, who was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

Family and friends will gather at a church in his hometown of St-Cyrille-de-Wendover near Drummondville for the private service.

Martin is the 154th Canadian combat fatality since the Afghan mission began in 2002.

The 24-year-old soldier was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was killed on Dec. 18.

He had also served in Haiti earlier this year.

The Drummondville native joined the military in October 2005 and served with the Royal 22e Regiment, commonly known as the Van Doos.
