Gold medal women’s game transcends hockey

VANCOUVER, B.C. – You may remember when the U.S. world junior hockey team beat Canada for the gold medal in Saskatoon earlier this year, a clip of the young Americans singing about coming to a “foreign land” and “kicking your [obscene adjective] ass” appeared on YouTube.
Well, the American women have a little victory ritual as well. The athletes were tight-lipped about the contents of their chant, though captain Natalie Darwitz – sensitive to Hayley Wickenheiser’s erroneous flag-stomping accusation from the 2002 Olympics – swears it is not disrespectful to the host nation of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
