Toyota recalls millions more vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp. said it will recall an additional 1.09 million vehicles in the United States over faulty gas pedals Thursday.

The fresh recall affects the following five models:

– 2008-2010 Highlander
– 2009-2010 Corolla
– 2009-2010 Venza
– 2009-2010 Matrix
– 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe

Toyota also announced this morning it’s extending its recalls to Europe over problems with gas pedals, but the company is unsure how many vehicles will be affected.

This latest recall comes one day after Toyota announced it would halt sales and production of eight models in Canada and the United States because of sticking gas pedals.

Those models include:

– 2009-2010 RAV4
– 2009-2010 Corolla
– 2009-2010 Matrix
– 2005-2010 Avalon
– Certain 2007-2010 Camrys
– 2010 Highlander
– 2007-2010 Tundra
– 2008-10 Sequoia

Meantime, it would appear the wheels are quickly turning to solve the problem of the faulty gas pedals as the Japanese automaker said a redesigned pedal is already in full production.

The problem has been blamed for sending Toyota shares down 8.2 per cent on Wednesday.
