For the ninth year in a row, Canada’s Junior team will play for gold, looking for their sixth in a row.
To do so, they will face the Americans, a team they got by on New Years Eve in a shootout, by far their closest game of the tournament. But meeting in the final is a rematch six years in the making.
The last time Canada’s Junior team failed to win the gold medal, it was in 2004, against the Americans. Marc-Andre Fleury, who is now one of the Olympic goalies, came out of his net to play the puck only to bank it off Patrick O’Sullivan and into the Canada net. After that loss, Canada went on to win five gold medals and they try to make it six this afternoon.
Since that loss, Canada has beat the U.S. every junior tournament meeting, going 6-0 since 2004. However many of those games have been very close
Canada’s Juniors will be a defenceman down, playing without Travis Hamonic on the blue line.
Puck drop is at 9pm AST you can catch the game live on News 95.7
