HALIFAX – Drivers across HRM are still navigating their way through what seem like an endless number of road construction projects this year.
Transit drivers are also feeling the frustration, with the head of the union that represents them calling it the worst year ever.
One route closure in particular is having a big impact on transit riders and drivers.
Ken Wilson said he understands that construction needs to happen, but lengthy road closures and the haphazard way that projects are started, are a cause of concern to him.
Wilson told the Rick Howe Show Bay Road has been closed for most of the summer, and that impacts about 25,000 fares each day
“The Bay Road is open to businesses and residents all summer long,” said Wilson. “Is transit not a business? Is there not a way they could let transit go up and down the Bay Road?”
Wilson said delays on the Bay road, and other major projects on main arteries, are causing drivers to claim overtime, and he wonders if that will be used against the union as they sit down with the city for contract talks.
