HALIFAX – Residents on a Lower Sackville street where two men died in a car crash earlier this week say excessive speed in an issue on that stretch.
A 26-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after police say the car he was driving slammed into a parked cubed van just after midnight Tuesday.
A third man was seriously injured in the collision.
Nina Barrios lives on Hillside Ave. and tells Global News many drivers use the street as a short cut.
“Daily, nightly, especially nightly they come by really fast,” said Barrios. “They use it avoid the main Sackville Dr. There are kids out there playing.”
Lower Sackville councillor Steve Craig says the municipality has only received a couple of official complaints about speeding on that street.
Police are still investigating and haven’t yet said whether speed was a factor.
