Halifax company sending drone operators south to assess Irma damage

HALIFAX – Two drone operators are headed to the Caribbean today to help assess damage caused by hurricane Irma.

Many islands are still reeling from the devastation caused by the category five storm.

Halifax-based drone company AeroVision Canada is sending two drone operators to Antigua and Barbuda to see just how bad it is.

AeroVision CEO Trevor Bermann telling NEWS 95.7 the men will be working side-by side with government agencies.

“Certain areas could be flooded out, we have no idea in terms of logistics what we’re going to get into,” said Bermann. “I’m happy they’re going, it’s going to be a good operation and one that should be beneficial to them down there.”

Humanitarian response organization GlobalMedic asked the drone company to help, and they’ll be providing the men with a generator, as well as funding their on-site and travel costs.

This isn’t the first time AeroVision and GlobalMedic teamed up. Last year AeroVision went to Ecuador to help assess damage caused by a major earthquake.
