Bayers Road watermain break causes traffic headaches

HALIFAX – A watermain break on Bayers Road caused traffic problems and congestion throughout the day on Wednesday as Halifax Water crews worked to fix the problem.

Halifax Water spokesperson James Campbell said the break happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday, prompting the shut down of Bayers Road outbound between Connaught Avenue to Romans Avenue while crews worked to fix the problem.

At first, the road was expected to remain closed throughout Wednesday’s afternoon rush hour but one lane was opened in each direction around 4 p.m.

Police still ask drivers avoid the area if at all possible as work is expected to continue into Wednesday evening.

Water service has also been disrupted between MicMac Street and Romans Avenue and Campbell said it’s not expected to be restored until late Wednesday evening.

The cause of the break remains under investigation.
