Young girl struck by combine succumbs to injuries

A seven-year-old child struck by a combine Wednesday night in the Clementsvale area has died in hospital from her injuries.

The announcement came from RCMP in a news release on Thursday evening, which added that the thoughts of the force are with “the families involved during what must be an extremely difficult time.”

RCMP Sgt. Terry Miller said earlier in the day that the girl was playing in a field that was being mowed by a farmer on a tractor around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Miller said the tractor operator didn’t see the child in the metre-high hay field he was cutting, as she appears to have been hiding in the deep grass.

Police said the girl’s leg was severed in the accident and she was then airlifted to a hospital in Halifax in critical condition, where she later died of her injuries.
