A stabbing near the Dartmouth Common has sent a 40-year old man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the Wyse Road and Thistle Street area shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday where they found a man who had been stabbed in the lower abdomen.

Police say he was approached by a group of seven teens who demanded cigarettes, then one of them stabbed him with a knife, and the group grabbed the victim’s backpack before running off.

The victim says the teen who stabbed him was white, others in the group were described as two black males, one black female and one white female.

The area was searched by officers but no suspects were found.

HRP say they continue to investigate.
