Emergency crews respond to late-night oil spill in Fall River area

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia Environment is working to clean up a late-night oil spill in the Fall River area.

Halifax Fire says crews were called out to the area at 10:30 Thursday night, when someone called to say they could smell oil.

Division Commander Lloyd Currie says crews found a broken line on a residential oil tank near Fletcher’s lake.

“They found an oil tank with a line that had broke off it,” explained Currie. “Not sure how much oil had leaked out of it.”

Currie says the 900 litre tank was empty when crews checked it out.

Halifax Water had shut down a plant on Lockview Rd. as a precaution in case any of the oil got into Fletcher’s lake.

Currie says the environment department will make a determination on how much oil was spilled and whether it did leak into the lake today.
