Election call coming this weekend, Liberals accidentally publish ad

HALIFAX – Multiple sources confirm to News 95.7 Nova Scotians will head to the polls on May 30 meaning an election call would have to happen this weekend from Premier Stephen McNeil, according to election law.

While the day of the call remains in question, either Saturday or Sunday, the Liberals appear to have scooped their own announcement by mistake on Friday.

Global News reports a campaign video on the Nova Scotia Liberal party’s website and YouTube on Friday also said the election would be held on May 30th before the website was quickly taken down.

The website is now back up and running but the one-minute video ad featuring McNeil has been scrubbed from the site but Global News posted a copy on their website.

“I know it hasn’t always been easy, but we’re stronger now than we were four years ago, so let’s keep building on a province with opportunity for everyone,” he says in the ad, which also misspelled ‘Building’ in the phrase ‘Building on a Stronger Nova Scotia,’ instead spelling it “Bulding”

Provincial election law stipulates a 30-day minimum election period once the writ is dropped and the Premier has not denied rampant election speculation over the past several weeks.

After the budget was introduced Thursday he indicated he would be going home for the weekend and continued to be coy about a possible election.

When asked when the province would be going to the polls, he responded, “you won’t be going in 2018, I don’t think.”
