HALIFAX – The 2017 cruise season officially gets underway Monday, and it’s expected to be the busiest season to date.
According to Lane Farguson with the Port Authority, Halifax is in for a record-breaking year.
“We’re expecting about 173 vessel calls, which will be the most vessels that we’ve seen in a single season,” says Farguson. “We’re expecting about 274,000 cruise guests, and add to that the crew on top. So it’s going to be a very busy cruise season here in Halifax.”
Farguson says a new economic impact study shows the cruise business in Halifax brings in $122-million annually in economic business.
Some of the more notable highlights expected this season include four visits from the Queen Mary 2, a visit from Disney Magic, as well as 11,000 passengers and crew members expected to arrive in early October.
This year’s season runs from Monday until Oct. 31.
