HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia Health Authority has announced a second travel-related case of measles now in the province. This comes after the first case was announced on March 20.

Health officials say the risk to the general public remains low and most people are protected by being vaccinated.

The exposure areas for this case are in the Digby area, at the Dockside Restaurant on March 17. The Roof Hound Brewing Company on March 17 and 18, and the Sunset Pub on March 17.

Those exposed at the above locations may develop symptoms between now and April 11, 2017.

Some of the symptoms of the measles include:

• Fever, cough, runny nose
• Red eyes
• A red blotchy rash on the face, which spreads down the body
• Sleepiness
• Irritability (feeling cranky or in a bad mood)
• Small white spots may also show up inside the mouth and throat

The health authority says most people recover within two to three weeks, but the virus can be more dangerous in infants, pregnant women or those with weak immune systems.
