16-year-old pleads guilty to second-degree murder in death of Joseph Cameron

HALIFAX – A young man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Joseph Cameron.

Cameron’s body was found on a Dartmouth sidewalk in the early morning hours of Mar. 29, 2016.

Police arrested two young men last summer, including the 16-year-old who, as Local Xpress is reporting, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in court Thursday.

The young man was set to go to trial on a charge of first-degree murder this summer, but by pleading guilty Thursday he will be sentenced on the lesser charge.

Local Xpress also reporting the crown has decided not to pursue sentencing the boy as an adult.

Another teen, an 18-year-old, was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder last summer. He was found in London, Ontario last July.

He is still set to go on trial for first degree-murder.

Shortly after his death, Cameron’s step-mother told NEWS 957 he had just moved back to Dartmouth before he was killed. She said the 20-year-old had plans to join the military.
