Police warn high-risk offender is in Halifax after serving sentence for sexual assault

HALIFAX – Regional police say a man who has completed a sentence after being charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement is now living in Halifax.
Police issued a statement warning residents that 36-year-old James Andrew MacKay was released from the Dorchester Penitentiary Wednesday. MacKay has a history of violent crimes dating back to 2010, and according to police his victims have included adult women, one of whom he had only known a short time.
MacKay is on probation for two years – he is not allowed any drugs, alcohol or weapons. He must also abide by a curfew, not contact his victims and must alert police to a change of address or a change of appearance.
Police describe MacKay as 5’10”, 181 lbs. with green eyes, brown hair and a beard.
In its release, police say any vigilantism or unreasonable conduct against MacKay will not be tolerated.
