Mooseheads hand Wildcats 25th straight loss with 5-3 win

MONCTON, N.B. – The Halifax Mooseheads handed the Moncton Wildcats their 25th consecutive loss, defeating them 5-3 on Thursday night.

Halifax opened up strong in the first period scoring three times and giving up only one goal, as Otto Somppi and two goals by Mathieu Charlebois gave the Herd a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless second period, Arnaud Durandeau extended Halifax’s lead in the third, but Jeremy McKenna responded minutes later to make it 4-2 Mooseheads.

Raphael Lavoie scored later in the period, with Moncton’s Derek Dicaire scored minutes later to close the gap again.

But it was too little, too late, as Halifax held on to defeat the Wildcats 5-3.

On Friday, the Mooseheads head back home to the Scotiabank Centre to welcome the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
