Overnight Winter Parking Ban to be enforced again as cleanup continues

HALIFAX – It’s been a long week for snow-clearing crews in Halifax.

Crews continue to work around the clock this weekend, removing snow from streets and sidewalks after around 80 centimetres of snow fell through the week.

To aid in clearing efforts, HRM says the Overnight Winter Parking Ban will be enforced once again on Sunday, Feb. 19. No on-street parking will be allowed from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The municipality says it will likely be nine more days until all sidewalks in the HRM are fully accessible, with priority given to those in areas around schools, transit routes and commercial districts.

Vehicles blocking sidewalk clearing efforts – such as those “hanging out of a driveway or parked on a sidewalk” – will be ticketed as well.

The municipality also reminding residents that thanks to provincial law, tickets can still be issued outside of the municipal parking ban hours if a vehicle is blocking crews from clearing snow.
